Fraction Worksheets by Grade
What each grade usually covers in US Common Core, and the sheet or game to reach for. Other curriculums move at a different pace, so go by your child, not the label.
1st grade (ages 6–7)
Splitting circles and rectangles into halves and fourths, and using the words half and quarter (1.G.A.3). No symbols yet. Use real food, then the pie sheets on the halves-only setting.
2nd grade (ages 7–8)
Splitting shapes into 2, 3 or 4 equal shares, and noticing that equal shares can look different (2.G.A.3). Try the equal parts sheet, and the early levels of the game.
3rd grade (ages 8–9)
Unit fractions and fractions like 3/4 (3.NF.A.1), the number line (3.NF.A.2), simple equivalence and comparing same tops or same bottoms (3.NF.A.3). Common Core limits this grade to denominators 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8, so choose the 3rd grade level on any sheet. Use pies, bars, number lines and comparing.
4th grade (ages 9–10)
Why equivalent fractions work (4.NF.A.1), comparing with different tops and bottoms (4.NF.A.2), and adding and subtracting with like denominators (4.NF.B.3). Denominators now include 5, 10 and 12 (and 100). Use equivalent, comparing and adding.
5th grade (ages 10–11)
Adding and subtracting with unlike denominators (5.NF.A.1), which goes beyond this site's game, plus multiplying and dividing. Use our sheets to shore up equivalent fractions, since that's the skill unlike denominators depend on, and read the step-by-step guide.
Questions
My child is behind. Where should we start?
Go back to equal parts and unit fractions, even in 4th or 5th grade. Most fraction trouble comes from those first ideas. The game starts there automatically.
Is the fraction game really free?
Yes. The whole game plays free in your browser, with no signup, no ads and no time limit. A Fraction Bakery app for iPhone is coming later, but the web game stays free.

Take the bakery with you, soon
A Fraction Bakery app for iPhone is on the way. The plan: offline play for the car, a parent report of which fractions have stuck, and the full bakery shelf of prizes. Until then, the whole game is free right here.
