Why thirds matter

Halves and quarters come from folding. Thirds don't, so they're often the first fraction that makes kids think about what “equal parts” actually means. Ask a child to draw thirds on a circle and you'll often see three stripes with a fat middle: three parts, but not thirds.

This version of the game sticks with thirds and their relatives, like 2/6 and 4/6, so 1/3 and 2/3 become familiar shapes.

Questions

Is 1/3 bigger than 1/4?

Yes. Share a pie among 3 people and each gets more than if you share it among 4. The bigger bottom number means smaller slices.

Is the fraction game really free?

Yes. The whole game plays free in your browser, with no signup, no ads and no time limit. A Fraction Bakery app for iPhone is coming later, but the web game stays free.

Take the bakery with you, soon

A Fraction Bakery app for iPhone is on the way. The plan: offline play for the car, a parent report of which fractions have stuck, and the full bakery shelf of prizes. Until then, the whole game is free right here.
